Iowa Beer Buzz | Richard the Whale, Aurox and the Drugstore Cowboy

Beer Buzz will be a weekly (?) look at what's happening around the beer scene. A link post maybe, if I'm not showing my blogging age. Aggregate posts still serve a purpose, I think. Anyway, there's only one way to find out.

BIG GROVE- BG's big beer is getting the bottle treatment at a ticketed event set in the Iowa City tap room on December 2nd. Fifty bucks gets you two 12-oz bottles of the base Richard the Whale, one 12-oz bottle of Richard the Whale with coffee and a collectors glass. Tickets can be purchased in advance via the Facebook link above.

ALLUVIAL- A November release date for the latest barrel-aged Aurox bottles hasn't been set yet but the Ames, Iowa, brewery is getting close. The second release of Aurox variants this year will be a cholaca and coconut and Uganda vanilla beans. Last year, the base Aurox with maple tapped Thanksgiving eve. Keep an eye on their Twitter/Facebook for the release date/time.

BRIGHTSIDE ALEWORKS- The newest Des Moines area brewery is located in the space previously occupied by Wing Nutt in Altoona.  Brightside will release a nice looking juicy IPA called Hop Waka November 9th at 4pm.

IOWA TURF WAR CHAMPIONS- The Pig and Porter is hosting a battle of the breweries of sorts each weekend in November. This week, Single Speed will face off with Iowa Brewing Company filling the tap lines. It's flight vs flight so four beers from each brewer. It's a battle where all the patrons are the winners.

IOWA HAZE - Monday (I think it was Monday), I posted a quick update related to NE Style Iowa brewed IPAs. Both Barn Town and Franklin Street were mentioned in the post. Barn Town still has plenty of Hop Skewer flowing and Franklin Street posted today new Drugstore Cowboy is almost ready.

OUR PSUEDOSUE CUP SOON FLOWETH OVER- Toppling Goliath is very close to completion of the big Decorah facility that will bring fresh cans and kegs of PsuedoSue and the like into our grubby hands. There's still not a grand opening date but concrete is freshly set for parking spots. This may actually happen in 2017.

BLACK FRIDAY BCBS TAPPING'S- The first of what will likely be many around the metro and state was announced on Global Brew's Facebook page today. Like last year, GB will have taps of Bourbon County Brand Stout and bottles to go. And, like last year, expect any bottled variants to go fast. They put a limit on one of each. Doors open at the West Des Moines/Waukee Global Brew at 1 pm.
