Iowa Beer Buzz | Martin Shkreli, Hopititis and Inland Empire

The second bottle release in a month at the Ames brewery will be this Thursday at 4:00 pm. Martin Shkreli, a barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout spent one year on Buffalo Trace barrels. Big Yin, a Scotch Ale, spent eight months in Four Roses barrels. Limit two per person. Yin will cost you $20 while Skreli $30 (750 ml) and come with a 4 oz pour of each.

Tomorrow (Dec. 20th), Jackson Street Brewing in Sioux City, will release Hell's Half Acre. It's a Russian Imperial Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels. Per their tweet imagine, its 750 ml bottles but price is TBD.

Inland Empire is hitting the store shelves this week. The American Imperial Stout saw tap lines last week before bottles hit distributors. Early Untappd check-ins give this stout with blackberries a solid 4.09 bottle caps.

Also released last week and hitting shelves this week, Madhouse's VIP. This barrel-aged vanilla porter is getting a little more love on the Untappd. Currently, after 27 check-ins, it sits at 4.34 bottle caps.

Pallets and pallets of Decorah made Psuedo Sue arrived at most Wine and Spirits yesterday. Santa Clark gives us the first run through the new system for Christmas. There's not a date on the cans yet but don't worry, that's coming to future batches.

For the second week in a row, Peace Tree has a new beer for tap room visitors. Last week, it was Hop Hulu, an all-Iowa hop beer. This week, it's Gillet Red, a red Belgium-style coming in at 6%.

Deb's has been on tap lines in Des Moines at both el Bait Shop and The Taproom for over a year. Now, you can get bottles directly from Deb yourself.

New, in the taproom, Pina Coladaburg tapped last weekend. It's marketed as a "Malt Beer" made with malted wheat, coconut, pineapple, Citra, Simcoe, Amarillo and Centennial hops. There's lactose there for mouth feel. Sounds like Christmas in Hawaii.

Not a new beer but returning. Hoptititis is back on tap at the 515 taproom in Clive. This double IPA is a solid 9% ABV and 85 IBUs. The hop bill is Citra, Mosiac and Simcoe. Perfect timing for Holiday growlers.

A new beer from Worth hits their tap lines this week. Grasslands IPA is described as citrus here, citrus there, citrus everywhere. There's dry-hopping too. Sounds interesting.
