Iowa Beer Buzz | Imperial Peanut Butter Porter and Pompeii Cans

There's lots of beer news out there so let's jump right into it.

Lake Time's popular Peanut Butter Porter gets the Imperial treatment. The bigger version will boom up to 9.5%! ABV and be available in 22 ounce bottles. Bottles are available in the taproom today and will hit the Des Moines accounts Thursday (Feb. 1).

The Iowa City brewery has launched distribution into Des Moines this week. Perhaps, already gone, bottles of Oja variants and Hail Sagan hit accounts on Tuesday. Plenty of six packs of their flagship beers also formed walls across Des Moines. If you live in the metro, be on the lookout for samples too.

For the first time ever, Pompeii has been loaded into 16 oz cans and packed in cardboard four packs for distribution. TG's Mosiac single hopped IPA has always been in bombers or on draft. Freshie cans will go fast. Look for them by the end of the week or early next.

Saturday is release day for Fat Hill's barrel-aged Mead named Braggot. 150 special sized crowers (750 ml) will be available starting at noon at the taproom. There's a limit three per person and 10 oz pours are available.

Per their Facebook Page, the Calmar has a new DIPA ready to release February 2nd. No info there on what hops or ABV/IBU and Untappd has nada too. It's a mystery, I suppose.

It looks like yet another brewery has locked up the doors and closed up shop. Another Road in Marion hasn't posted on Facebook since December and drivers-by report the lights are out. Per some Twitter talk, the brewery is kaput and their brewer is heading over to Iowa Brewing Company.

If you're reading this it's probably too late for some Coffee Manticore. It tapped at open today. But, it's not too late to get Coconut Manticore as it's set to release February 24th.

We'll have to wait til March but it appears Boone Valley has a BA RIS almost ready for us. Boone Valley has an annual bottle release of Ol' Griz and BA Ol' Griz each December. Let's hope this BA RIS gets the bottle for take home too. More details on this Ol' Blog as they become available.

The Des Moines brewery released new cans of Rock Dodger and Imogene Red at their taproom today. Saturday, February 10th is the date for their always popular Chewbocka Fest. The party starts at their taproom at noon.

There's a new brew at the 3Bag brewery called Vengeance Unleashed. It's a huge (13.3% ABV) Oatmeal stout with four roasted malts mixed in with Pale Malt. The base then sat four months in bourbon barrels to get that boost to reach that big boozer status.

Yet another new beer from PT, East Village IPA. This Citra and Mosiac hopped IPA comes in at 6% ABV and 90 IBUs. Peace Tree doesn't call this a DDH but their Facebook Page description says "hopped several times." Draft only at all three branches.

If you're still looking for Sticky Juice (my beer of the month in January), there's still some floating around. The University Library Cafe in Des Moines will host a BT tap takeover tomorrow. Hello! Marjorie in downtown Des Moines also tapped Sticky Juice yesterday. There's also rumor of a sixtel still out there in Eastern Iowa (tap that stuff, homey).

At the taproom, Barn Town snuck a couple new beers out on us. Whats-A-Ma-Name-It is a Citra and Simcoe IPA while Liquid Assets is a Pale Wheat Ale brewed for new neighbors Holmes Murphy.

Here's a new beer that's an old traditional style. RR drops today an English Mild and include the history of the style in their Twitter post. See below!
