IBB IPAPA March Bracket Round 1 | #5 Alluvial Helix Vs. #12 515 Brewing OJ Gets Lei'd

Two Central Iowa breweries battle it out in round one here in the Central Iowa bracket. It's new vs. older but older vs. newer with brewery vs. beer. Click below to cast your vote on which beer moves on to round 2.

How it got here: Alluvial debuted this beer in July of 2015 and is about as close to a "flagship" for the Ames brewery you get. There's this Pale ale and then there's the Helix Prime Imperial version. You're voting today on the Pale as it's available currently in Ames and around their three tap locations: El Bait Shop, The Iowa Taproom and Hello! Majorie. It's a sweet 6.1% of Citra and Mosiac hops that carries a 4.06 Untappd rating with over 800 check-ins.

How it got here: OJ had to get by Peace Tree's East Village IPA before it could get lei'd. The beer was selected to participate in a play-in game to reach the official first round. The match wasn't close as 515 rolled to an easy victory.

515's OJ IPA is a Des Moines legend but here we have a fruited version that made its debut in October of 2017. It's a beer that takes you to the beaches of Maui with it's soft wheat and orange flavors that gets coconut and pineapple additions. At 4.9% ABV you can make a day of pounding these at the beach, if only you had one in Iowa to visit. Untappd folks like this one at 3.95 bottle caps with over 250 check-ins.

Availability: Draft only at the 515 taproom and across various taps in the Des Moines metro.
