Iowa Beer Blog IPA Bracket Tournament Play-In Game Results

Whew, well that was something. Yesterday, it was announced that two play-in games would be required to complete the final bracket of 32. We now know two of the beers that will compete for the first IBB IPA Tournament Champion.

In an easy victory, 515 Brewing's OJ Gets Lei'd rolled Peace Tree's newest East Village IPA. 515 jumped out to an early start and never looked back to win this match-up 68% - 32%. 515's OJ Gets Lei'd secures the 12th seed on the Central Iowa side of the bracket for the March tourney. There's little time to rest as 515 will find out its competition this Sunday.

In an incredible match-up, Confluence's NE Style IPA and ReUnion Brewing's Tank Puncher were practically tied since voting opened. It was a battle throughout the first 23 hours when ReUnion got just enough in the matches' final hour to edge ahead. Still, it was the slimmest of margins and congrats to both for a terrific competition. ReUnion's Tank Puncher will get the 16th seed on the Eastern side of the bracket.

The official bracket release will be Sunday, February 25th, at approximately noon central time. The match-ups will first be announced via Twitter @IowaBeerBlog and then the full bracket published here shortly after. Voting will begin on Monday, February 26th for the first round and continue through Saturday, March 3rd at noon.
