Road Trippin' | Your Iowa Beer Blog Guide to Two Days in Minnesota

MINNESOTA

Sure, it'd be easy to head straight up I-35 to Minneapolis to check out any of the 60+ breweries in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. First, we're going on a little side trip to Rochester to check out Forager Brewing. They have a rotating list of pastry stouts, hazy NE Style IPAs and tart fruited Berliners. Load up on crowlers to-go if you can.

We're back on I-35 and heading towards the Twin Cities. Deciding on where to stay and visit is as tough as Chicago as there's established breweries like Summit and Surly and new up-and-coming places like Modist and Barrel Theory. Summit and Surly we can get in Iowa so let's go from the crowler cred and hope to impress all of our friends upon return.

We'll start at Modist Brewing in Minneapolis and load up our bellies with NE Style IPAs Dreamyard, False Pattern and Shook Pineapple. Like Forager, there's also pastry stouts and fruited sours if IPAs doesn't get it done. There's cans to-go as well.

We'll then venture over the river and stop in at Dangerous Man Brewing. You wouldn't visit Hawaii and not eat a pineapple so you can't visit Minneapolis and not drink a Peanut Butter Porter. If you're not feeling peanut butter in your beer, there's a SMASH the Patriarchy IPA pouring currently too.

After a healthy day one, we'll look to do it again starting out the second day at Fair State Brewing Co-op. Their IPAs and Lagers come canned and are crisp and clean. Their fruited sours come in 750ml bottles and are delightful. There's a hazy IPA on tap too if you'd rather.

Finally, we'll make our way to Barrel Theory in Saint Paul. There's plenty of time and stops to make in between but I'm saving my money for crowlers to-go. Currently, the taplist boasts some fantastic NE Style IPAs like Rain Drops, Shooter McGavin and Dorothy Mantooth. There's also Berliners like Purple Lamborghini and Stouts like Swipe Right. As always, check the taplist before you travel and hope for Double Dry-Hopped something.
