The Latest in Iowa Haze | August Edition

The fog days of Summer are here. The Iowa Haze Report is the IBB's monthly look at IPAs from Iowa breweries with that little bit of unfiltered smog. There's something new practically every month, so, let's jump right into it.

PULPIT ROCK/BARN TOWN - Sticky Stinky Juice
Two of Iowa's most popular haze breweriez teamed up to make a collaboration last month. There's not been an official announcement but we do know Pulpit Rock lists Sticky Stinky Juice on their beer list at the Great Taste of the Midwest this weekend. The name is a combo of Sticky Juice and Stink Juice, two of Iowa's best NE Style IPAs. The beer will have a lot of hype so keep your eye out for its release.

LION BRIDGE - Livin' the Dream
Here's another collab but this time with a local (to Lion Bridge) brewer Matt Franklin. They blended Loral, Mosaic, Cashmere and Amarillo hops into this one. Check out the podcast Havin' One for a full review.

ALLUVIAL - Hazy Helix
The original Helix from Alluvial has been around since July of 2015. It's been doubled up and tinkered with since. This time, Alluvial changed the malt bill to cloud it up. It's just as tasty as before but now with a creamier mouthfeel.

THIRD BASE - All Fuzzed Out and The New Gold Standard
Third Base has a couple of new brews ready to roll for the Great Taste of the Midwest this weekend. Meanwhile, at their taproom, you can get a taste of both All Fuzzed Out and The New Gold Standard. All Fuzzed is a Double NEIPA with double the malts and a five hops blend (Loral, Citra, Simcoe, El Dorado, and Amarillo.) The New Gold Standard is lower ABV and brings Nugget, Citra, Simcoe, El Dorado hops on two different yeasts.

BRIGHTSIDE ALEWORKS - Tropical Circus
Double dry-hopped with both Mosaic and Citra hops, this beer brings the fruitiness. Brightside has been quietly popping out some high quality beers. If you visit Des Moines for the Iowa State Fair it's recommended you make a stop in Altoona to the taproom.

It's somewhat of a short list but it's early in the month. Keep your head on a swivel and your feet moving. There's plenty of opportunities to try several Iowa beers with the Great Taste, Great Taste of Nebraska, Iowa State Fair and Festival of Iowa Beers within the next four weeks.
